“It’s a Windy Day”

It's a Windy Day

Why: The Facebook group “Simple Origami” is having another one of their themed design contests, and this one was “[It’s a Windy Day][simple-ori-fb-wind].” As an avid sailor, I of course immediately thought of a sailboat. I’ve tried, various times over the years to come up with a sailboat that felt right, but so far to no avail.

Today, for whatever reason, was different – and this was what resulted! I am quite pleased.

This example is wet-folded from lightweight watercolor paper. It also works from regular paper, but does have some large, single-layer areas, so it can’t be too large or it won’t stand up on its own. It’s fairly repeatable, though it doesn’t have many landmarks (and to get a nice clean mainsail, you need to estimate the sail sizes) but is somewhat forgiving.

Yay!

The back isn't completely tidy, but it does allow it to stand on its own!
