Why: My friend Ali sent me a copy of the instructions for this lovely piece and it just screamed “fold me.” It’s one of those simple-but-not-necessarily-all-that-easy pieces: a straightforward twist-collapse of a pentagon, some careful precreasing, a small “pop!” repeated five times, and you have this 3D puffy star. You have to crease carefully to keep the lines crisp and the points sharp, but it is very much worth the effort.
It works fine from regular commercial origami paper, but is even better from something with a bit more body, like Tant.
I believe it’s in the queue to be published in OrigamiUSA’s print magazine, the PAPER – keep an eye out for it.
